Roland Hagenberg’s exhibition, "Architecture of the Future" in Fuluoka, Japan

Roland Hagenberg''s exhibition "Architecture of the Future" will open November 28 at Artium http://artium.jp/info/  in Fukuoka. It features 9 Japanese star-architects like Kengo Kuma, Kazuyo Sejima, Toyo Ito and Hiroshi Hara who explain to Roland what the future has in store for us. On view are also their concepts for the Austrian village of Raiding, where composer Franz Liszt was born and where Roland has initiated an architectural project.

Last month Roland Hagenberg talked to 9 of Japan's most influential architects to find out about the future of their profession. Which of their buildings do they consider good examples for future developments? Will Japanese traditional elements like tatami rooms or paper screens survive? How does consumerism influence modern architecture? Are Japanese architecture students up to face the global workplace? – these are some of the questions addressed in the exhibition. Another aspect is the Austrian village of Raiding, where composer Franz Liszt was born. In this rural environment, Roland has invited the architects to develop multifunctional living modules – structures, that could lead us into the future.

During exhibition, Roland’s documentary "Architecture of the Future" will be screened. On display are models, drawings and photographs of the architects' works. Kengo Kuma and Roland Hagenberg will present a  lecture on opening day. Participating architects: Jun Aoki, Sou Fujimoto, Toyo Ito, Yasuhiro Yamashita, Terunobu Fujimori, Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa, Kengo Kuma, Hiroshi Hara, Astrid Klein & Mark Dytham.
