Philippe Ranjard
Born in 1934, Philippe Ranjard is a contemporary French painter. He studied in 'Beaux-arts' in Paris and became an Architect DPLG. After his art studies in Paris, he completed his art training in Rome, through ink drawings of the Palatin ruins. He then studied for several years with an international renowned painter, Benami Kohler from Romania.
Since the 18th century, Philippe Ranjard's family has produced famous artists including engravers such as Lemercier (French printer), Louis Courcelles Dumont (engraver for L'Illustration and Gustave Dore's work) and Henri Ambroise Courcelles Dumont (studied with Gustave Moreau and decorated part of the Pantheon).
This family tradition still is evident in Philippe's paintings, his technique close to that of an engraver. He experimented with Chinese ink at an early stage, and also painted landscapes with pastels. After a while, he challenged himself with the nude which became his favourite theme. Watercolour and red chalk became his favourite medium, allowing him to capture fugitive moments and instant postures.
